Colin Cowherd was so sure on Friday of all of his “Blazin’ 5” against the spread picks for the first week of the 2023 NFL season.

While picking the Steelers to win, Cowherd said, “This defense in the last seven weeks, crushed people, suffocated offenses. I can argue it can go toe-to-toe with the Niners as the league’s best defense.”

He took Pittsburgh plus 2-1/2.

Final score: 49ers 30, Steelers 7.

Colin then picked the Colts, saying, “Home underdogs, divisional rivals, I like them. … I think they can ball control it, element of surprise, I love Shane Steichen.”

Cowherd took the Colts plus 4-1/2, adding that they would win the game.

Final score: Jaguars 31, Colts 21.

Next up, Cowherd chose New England because they return “19 of 22 starters and their defense, what’s new, top three in sacks and picks. That’s what that defense does.”

Colin chose the Patriots plus 4 points.

Final score: Eagles 25, New England 20.

His fourth pick was the Chargers.

“Kellen Moore is a difference maker,” he said, then added, “Meanwhile, Miami, I don’t like their offensive line situation.”

Cowherd took the Chargers, giving away three points, and picked them to win the game.

Final score: Miami 36, Chargers 34.

And finally, in picking the Giants, Colin said, “Give me the G-Men. By the way, do you know they were the best team in the league last year against the spread? Daboll as a dog is 13-4 dog, there’s a dog barking here.”

Cowherd also said, “I do not buy that Daniel Jones and the Giants are regressing. Daboll year two with Daniel Jones and better weapons is a better Daniel Jones.”

He took the Giants plus 3-1/2 and picked them to win outright.

Final score: Cowboys 40, Giants 0.

5 picks, 5 misses.

“You have to give him credit… that is hard to do!” read another comment.

“Well he can’t be any worse next week,” wrote someone who was looking at the glass half full.
