The college baseball world is calling for the removal of umpire Angel Campos following a series of early season ejections. He’s now tossed coaches in each of his last three series behind the plate.

His latest ejection involved St. John’s coach Mike Hampton. It continued a trend that dates back to last year’s College World Series final.

Campos has been at the center of controversy for some time. His history of overreacting has produced ire amongst viewers throughout the sport.

The latest instance came in a matchup between the Red Storm and Arizona State.

Angel Campos ejected Mike Hampton.

Hampton was tossed in Game 2 of a three-game set between the Red Storm and Sun Devils. The head coach was unhappy with the umpire’s strike zone.

After arguing balls and strikes, Hampton was thrown out. St. John’s would lose the game, 3-1.

It was the second straight weekend in the 2026 campaign to see a coach tossed by Campos. A week prior, he removed Kansas State coach Pete Hughes from his post for the same reason.

Campos has a quick trigger. He doesn’t take criticism well. That was seen on the biggest stage last year.

The umpire tossed Kevin Schnall.

The Coastal Carolina head coach began arguing the strike zone in a College World Series matchup vs. LSU. His dismay surfaced just 10 pitches into the contest.

That ejection led college baseball fans down a rabbit hole when researching the Angel Campos’ past.

The blue was removed of his MLB duties in 2014. A 2011 tossing of Matt Kemp went particularly viral during his professional stint.

After being demoted, Campos began calling NCAA games. His skin has not gotten any thicker.

Two years prior to his championship series ejection of Schnall, he landed criticism for ejecting Clemson star outfielder Cam Cannerella during a crucial postseason contest.

Tigers coach Erik Bakich blasted the umpire after seeing Schnall thrown out last season.

The best umpires, the best officials, the best ones that are in charge of that, they’re really good at defusing situations. The worst ones are the ones that instigate and antagonize and look for conflict.

“When you have an Angel Campos or a Billy Van Raaphorst, or guys that are on the side of looking for conflict, then conflict happens… It’s a shame that that had to be part of the narrative of that [College World Series national championship] game.”

-Erik Bakich

Campos does not defuse situations. He makes them worse. Fans are tired of seeing him insert himself into key situations.

College baseball world wants Angel Campos gone.

When is the NCAA going to get rid of Angel Campos?” one fan wrote on X earlier this season. “He is 100% insufficient in his duties.”

That sentiment has been echoed throughout the sport with Campos continuing to make himself a part of the game.

Arguing balls and strikes is against NCAA rule. Multiple violations will result in an early exit.

NCAA Playing Rule 3-6-f-Note 1 states that balls, strikes, half swings or decisions about hit-by-pitch situations are not to be argued. After a warning, any player or coach who continues to argue balls, strikes, half swings or a hit-by-pitch situation shall be ejected from the game.

With that said, the frequency in which Campos pulls his trigger is concerning. It’s led to frustration amongst viewers, players, and coaching staffs.

Through two weekends of college baseball action, Angel Campos has already tossed two critics. That runs his total to three straight series dating back to last year’s championship set.

Fans have had enough of the blue’s antics. They are pushing for his removal from the diamond.
