The North Texas Mean Green bested conference rival East Carolina in Tuesday night college basketball action to improve to 3-1 in AAC play. The game was close throughout, with the road team pulling away late for a nine-point win.
The Pirates took a 33-27 lead into the halftime break. The Mean Green stormed back with a big second half to secure the win. The game was largely uneventful in the final minutes with North Texas building a double-digit lead amid an ECU scoring drought.
Despite the growing deficit for the Pirates, a number of viewers stayed tuned in until the final buzzer sounded. Sports bettors had reason to watch.
The spread of the matchup wasn’t a concern. North Texas easily covered a 3.5-point line with that late run. The total, however, went down to the wire.
That point total settled at 128.5 by tipoff. The game appeared to end with a final score of 69-57. That would’ve secured a payout for UNDER bettors by a single basket. Unfortunately, the win was short-lived!
Officials added a half-second to the clock after the buzzer sounded. That clock adjustment was meaningless in terms of the final outcome. It would have a major impact on the point total, though.
East Carolina inbounded the ball at midcourt. RJ Felton then heaved a half-court shot as time expired. North Texas played no defense having all but secured victory. The shot went in.
Hey @notthefakeSVP I’ve found the WORST bad beat of all time.
Under 128.5 ❌

The three-pointer pushed the score to 69-60, lifting the point total to 129. The OVER cashed.
It has to be one of the worst beats thus far in the college basketball season. The game was essentially over, only for viewers to see meaningless time put back on the clock.
That final shot affected a number of sports bettors who rushed to social media to post their reactions. “Bad Beats” segment anchor Scott Van Pelt responded after catching wind of the brutal ending.
No quarter. Or dollars after this. Heavens to Betsy.
These hoopers signed up for 40 minutes of ball. They played until the final buzzer(s). It unfortunately ended in disaster for many.
