The 9 College Football Teams With The Longest Winning Streak Against One School

Some sports teams have trouble getting a win against an opponent that seems to have their number whenever they face off, and that is certainly the case with the college football teams that have had some serious trouble earning a win against the programs responsible for the longest winning streaks at the expense of a single opponent.

These are the college football teams that rattled off the longest string of consecutive victories against another school

College football boasts some lopsided rivalries featuring a team that firmly has the upper hand over a sworn enemy, and those series have featured some lengthy runs where the dominant squad has put together a lengthy winning streak.

Some of them make an appearance on the list of the teams that have had the longest winning streak against the same school, and it’s rounded out by some others where the losing side had to wait a long time to finally bring it to a merciful end.

T-7. Ohio State and Indiana: 29 Games

I’m going to kick things off with the streak that served as the inspiration for this list, as Indiana had never beaten Ohio State heading into its showdown with the Buckeyes in the Big Ten conference championship game in 2025.

The two teams met for the first time in 1989 in a showdown where Ohio State earned a 35-31 win, and while the two sides tied the following year, that was the closest the Hoosiers had ever gotten to a victory during what was really a 30-game winning streak if you count the win the Buckeyes vacated in 2010.

However, the pain finally came to an end when Indiana got the 13-10 win to earn its first conference title since 1967 (and the first one it secured outright since 1945).

T-7. Nebraska and Kansas State: 29 Games

This is the first of two times Nebraska will be making an appearance, and both of them come courtesy of teams hailing from The Sunflower State.

Kansas State (which will also pop up again) was the laughing stock of college football before Bill Snyder staged a miraculous turnaround after taking over as their head coach in 1989. Prior to that point, the Wildcats had served as a punching bag for plenty of different teams, and they took plenty of beatings from Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers kicked off this streak with a win in 1968, and while Snyder may have injected new life into Kansas State upon his arrival, he needed ten tries to finally stop Nebraska’s run before his guys got the 40-30 win in 1998.

T-7. Clemson and Virginia: 29 Games

Clemson was one of the seven founding members of the ACC when the conference formed in 1953, and Virginia decided to get in on the action later that year.

The two teams met on the football field for the first time in 1955, and the Cavaliers learned to dread seeing Clemson’s name on their schedule. The 20-7 win the Tigers earned in their inaugural tilt was the first of 29 in a row, and it took Virginia 35 years to finally get its first victory before earning one by the same score in 1990.

T-5. Penn State and Temple: 31 Games

Temple won the first two games it ever played against Penn State in 1931 and 1932, and the Owls bounced back from a loss in 1940 to take a 3-1 lead in the series the following year.

However, the guys representing Philadelphia would need to wait more than 70 years to get another taste of victory against the boys from Happy Valley.

Penn State was riding a 31-game winning streak against Temple when it opened up the 2015 season in what was supposed to be a tune-up game for the Nittany Lions, but they were handed a stunning defeat and fell to 0-1 with a 27-10 loss.

T-5. Florida and Kentucky: 31 Games

Kentucky owns Florida when it comes to basketball, as the Wildcats have a 110-42 edge in games where the two teams have met on the hardwood (which includes an 18-game winning streak against the Gators between 1942–1964).

However, the roles are reversed when it comes to the gridiron. Florida has a 54–21 lead in the series with a history that stretches back to 1917, although Kentucky was in control of it midway through the 1950s.

However, the tides started to turn with an eight-game winning streak that began in 1957, and things really started to spiral out of control for the Wildcats three decades later. Florida got a 27-14 win in 1987, and Kentucky ended up losing 31 games in a row before snapping the streak in 2018.

4. Oklahoma and Kansas State: 32 Games

As promised, we have our second appearance from Kansas State, but Bill Snyder didn’t have anything to do with bringing this dubious run to an end.

Oklahoma also had a long-running rivalry with Kansas State before defecting to the SEC, but it was a very one-sided one when you consider the Sooners hold a 77-22-4 edge over the Wildcats.

32 of those wins came during a run that began in 1937, which saw Oklahoma get a 19-0 win a year after the two teams played to a 6-6 tie. Kansas State had to wait until 1969 to get another victory, although they snapped the streak in a decisive manner in a 59-21 rout.

3.  Princeton and Rutgers: 33 Games

I would normally limit this list to FBS teams, but I’m going to make an exception for the Ivy League squad involved in a streak stemming from a series that can be traced back to what is literally the first college football game ever played.

Princeton was still known as the “College of New Jersey” when it suffered a 6-4 loss to Rutgers on November 6, 1869, which is widely considered the first contest between two college football teams.

The Tigers got their revenge with an 8-0 result on their home turf the following week, and they dispatched their interstate foes on 33 straight occasions before the Scarlet Knights earned a 20-18 win in 1938.

2. Nebraska and Kansas: 36 Games

Kansas and Nebraska had one of the longest-running rivalries in college football before the latter traded the Big 12 for the Big Ten in 2011, and the Cornhuskers were firmly in control of a series where they have a 91-23-3 record against the Jayhawks.

In 1967, Kansas snapped a five-game losing streak with the first of back-to-back wins. However, Nebraska regained control with a victory in 1969, which marked the first of 36 straight. The Jayhawks finally brought the streak to an end in fairly emphatic fashion in 2005, as they dispatched the Cornhuskers in a 40-15 showdown at home.

1. Notre Dame and Navy: 43 Games

Notre Dame and Navy played for the first time in 1927, and the two schools have had a strong relationship since the latter paid to use the former’s campus to train officers during World War II while giving the university a much-needed cash infusion.

Navy has not experienced much success in a series where the Fighting Irish have posted an 82-13-1 record, and in 1964, Notre Dame kicked off what would become the longest winning streak any college football team has had against the same opponent with a 40-0 victory.

It finally ended in 2007, as the Midshipmen were able to salvage a win with a 46-44 triumph in triple overtime.
