Prairie View A&M head coach Tremaine Jackson was unable to give his full attention to recruiting on the night before the early signing period in college football. He has more important priorities.
The Panthers are going to play for a spot in the HBCU national championship!
There are two different kinds of college football coaches. One has time. One doesn’t. Recruits have to decide what is most important.
Prairie View A&M is still playing college football!
Prairie View A&M University is a Historically Black College and University in Texas, about 50 miles outside of Houston. It was founded in 1876 as one of two land-grant universities and the second-oldest public institution of higher learning in the Lone Star State.
The Panthers compete on the Division I level of NCAA competition as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Prairie View won nine games during the college football regular season with three losses to Rice, UT Rio-Grand Valley and Alabama State. It finished at 7-1 in the SWAC to reach the conference championship game against Jackson State on Saturday.
The winner of the SWAC will then play the winner of the MEAC in the Celebration Bowl on Dec. 13, which is considered the HBCU national championship. It is the program’s best season in more than a decade. The Panthers last won nine games in 2009.
Tremaine Jackson doesn’t have time for recruiting!
Although National Signing Day is still a few months away, college football recruits in the Class of 2025 who already made their decision were allowed to sign with their respective school on Wednesday. The ‘Early Signing Period’ will be open from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5 for those who might want to enroll in time for the spring semester or those who are confident in their decision and just want to be done.
Thus, coaches all over the country were talking with recruits on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Not only did they want make sure their verbal commits were going to sign, they tried their hardest to flip whomever they could from other programs.
One particular coaching staff did not stay on the phone super late. That would be Prairie View.
While other teams in the conference tried to bash the Panthers to change the minds of 18-year-olds, SWAC Coach of the Year Tremaine Jackson and his staff were getting ready for the conference championship on Saturday!
He sent a blanket message to recruits at the start of the week. Any rival coaches who had the time to talk to his recruiting class in an attempt to flip them away from Prairie View had that time for a reason.
Mic drop!
Would you rather play for the coach who is too busy game-planning for the conference championship or the coach who can stay on the phone for hours? I know my answer.
