The college football season has sadly come and gone. It started with a week one Georgia Bulldog blowout, and ended with one, as the Dawgs beat TCU by a whopping 65-7 margin in the national title game Monday night.

But, college football is a year-round sport in terms of media attention. Nothing outside the NFL moves the needle like college football, and the media coverage is never-ending.

And, it’s so much fun to bet on. The sheer volume of games and their easy availability on television have made it a favorite among bettors for decades. With sports gambling becoming legal in much of the country over the past decade, the gambling market in college football has never been bigger.

So, that means that oddsmakers had to have 2023 national title odds ready to go right after Monday’s game. And, Draftkings Sportsbook got right to it.

A few things stand out. First, Georgia is very much considered the favorite to win their third consecutive title. No team in the sport has won three titles in a row in the modern era. The last team to do it at all was Minnesota from 1934-1936.

Alabama had a disappointing season this year, as they missed the playoff and finished 11-2 with a Sugar Bowl victory over Kansas State. But, oddsmakers still believe in Coach Nick Saban’s ability to get it done, and they’re just 5:1.

The Big Ten East has two strong contenders, with Ohio State and Michigan both among the favorites. And, Penn State, who is appearing in the top ten in nearly every too-early preseason top 25 poll, is at 28-1.

Clemson is the top team from the ACC, while USC leads the PAC 12 with the same odds as Clemson, 14-1. Texas somehow has the best odds among the Big 12. If you’re going to bet on Texas to win a championship, may I suggest charity instead?

228 days remain until we play college football again. I cannot wait.
