Johns Hopkins is the fourth-ranked college lacrosse team in the country. The Blue Jays are led by Garrett Degnon, who has scored nearly one quarter of their goals this year.
He is old!
Degnon first enrolled in 2019. It is now 2024. This is his sixth (and final) season of collegiate eligibility.
The length of his career created a hilarious scene on Saturday. Johns Hopkins held Senior Day festivities for its last home game of the year. Degnon walked across the field with his mother and father.
His dad, George, absolutely roasted him. He and his wife, Kristin, celebrated Senior Day with their son for the third time. They first did so in 2022. They did so again in 2023. Saturday was the third time!
As he, Kristin and Garrett walked across the field, George reminded his son of the hilarious reality.
Degnon first celebrated Senior Day at the end of his four-year career in 2022.
He then chose to use a fifth season of eligibility that was given to him due to the pandemic in 2020. The NCAA granted all athletes with a blanket waiver and the Blue Jays were thrilled to welcome him back.
Degnon was expected to move on after his fifth year and celebrated Senior Day again last spring. And then the NCAA gave him an additional year of eligibility because he continues to actively pursue an MBA at one of the top business schools in the country. He played in only three games as a freshman so it was essentially deemed a redshirt year.
Thus, the 2024 college lacrosse season is year number six for Garrett Degnon! The 6-foot-4, 215-pound attackman has scored a team-high 34 goals on 91 shots (.374) and 53 shots on goal (.582) this season and continues to be the primary catalyst to John Hopkins’ success.
