EA Sports has gone all in on the Colorado Buffaloes as it gets set to release its highly anticipated College Football ’25 video game. Team rankings for both offensive and defensive units have been unveiled.

Both lists were met with much criticism, with Deion Sanders‘ bunch receiving the most flak for their simulated status.

The Buffs went just 4-8 last season following a 3-0 start. While a number of those late season losses were close, the 1-7 finish to the year did little to build confidence moving into 2024 – at least for the casual fan!

EA Sports apparently liked what it saw in Boulder last season, which is evident when looking at these recent team rankings.

Colorado boasts a Top 20 defense (20th) and Top 10 offense (8th) according to the latest College Football ’25 update. That’s good for the No. 1 offense and No. 2 defense in the Big XII!

It would seem the video game has championship aspirations for the program. You’d never know that they finished 80th in total offense and 127th in total defense a year ago!

That included maybe their worst performance of the year, when the Buffs blew a 29-0 lead by giving up 46 second half points to make a stagnant Stanford offense look like the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, the offense did flash some explosion with Shedeur Sanders under center. Unfortunately, much of their success was stunted by a nation-worst 492 sack yards.

Social media quickly reacted.

“Colorado had one of the worst offenses in college football last year…”

“I think you need to fire whoever made these lists.”

“Colorado was objectively terrible on offense last year. No clue how you justify them.”

“One of these is not like the others…”

The game has caught serious flak for a number of ratings, including its recent “Best Atmosphere” reveal. These two rankings may be the most egregious, though.

Outside of Colorado, fans also keyed in on Clemson and Miami’s inclusion on the offense list ahead of high-flying units like Tennessee and Ole Miss. Meanwhile, USC (who fired its DC midyear) and LSU landed Top 20 defenses following atrocious outputs in 2023.

Folks are excited about the video game’s release, but they might’ve hoped for a bit more accuracy in this aspect.
