The Colorado State Rams fell to the rival Boise State Broncos in Mountain West Conference football action. A pair of unsportsmanlike acts occurred in the fourth quarter.

Those moments were separated by just a few plays. The first had direct impact on the one to follow.

The game was not particularly close with the Broncos winning 49-21. Frustrations boiled over on the Rams‘ side.

Boise State scored 34 of the contest’s first 41 points. It held a commanding lead entering the final period. Though the game was well in hand, Colorado State continued to push on offense.

It resulted in the team’s most exciting play of the game. Freshman running back Javion Kinnard ripped off a 91-yard touchdown run minutes into the fourth quarter.

He was stripped of a score thanks to a questionable taunting penalty.

Kinnard high-stepped into the endzone. The penalty scrubbed his 91-yard touchdown from the box score, though he was still credited with a 79-yard scamper.

That run came with about 13 minutes left in regulation. Colorado State would find the endzone on a four-yard touchdown pass with 11 minutes remaining on the clock.

It wasn’t that second-down pass that had the college football world talking, though. It was the play that occurred on first-and-goal.

The Rams lined up for a first down play from the Broncos’ four-yard line. They attempted a pass, which initially appeared to travel backwards.

Boise State defenders picked the football up as it fell to the ground. The Broncos began to return the assumed fumble before the play was blown dead.

During that brief return, Colorado State quarterback Darius Curry was shoved by a blocker. He took offense to that push.

Curry spit on Jayden Virgin-Morgan. It was not seen by the officials.

He received no punishment in the moment and would return to the game on the Rams’ ensuing drive.

“I’ll watch the film and evaluate the situation,” said interim head coach Tyson Summers. “I’ll decide if there will be disciplinary action… We want to be known as a school that plays with high sportsmanship… I apologize if we didn’t uphold that.”

Darius Curry spit on a Boise State player after the Colorado State football team had a touchdown questionably scrubbed from the scoreboard. The offense, arguably, should’ve been on the sidelines when that unsportsmanlike act occurred.

That does not excuse the Rams’ signal caller for his actions. He will likely face consequences in the season finale.
