Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman made the bold decision to guarantee a win over Texas ahead of the Longhorns’ first season in the Southeastern Conference. He also told a bold-faced lie while doing so.

The 20-year-old signal-caller actually used to root for his current in-state rivals…

Weigman, a former five-star recruit in the Class of 2022, was the second- or third-ranked quarterback prospect of his year behind or with Drew Allar and Cade Klubnik. This will be his first full year as the starter for the Aggies after making four starts as a freshman and four starts as a sophomore.

It will also be Weigman’s first opportunity to play against the University of Texas, which will travel to College Station for the final game of the college football regular season. Although the team from Austin considers Oklahoma to be its biggest rival, Texas A&M sees the in-state battle as the premier rivalry game. Regardless of how the other 11 games play out for both programs, their first meeting since 2011 is going to be intense.

If the Aggies are not in College Football Playoff contention themselves, they will likely have an opportunity to spoil the Longhorns’ national championship hopes.

Conner Weigman is very confident in his team’s chances of winning that matchup. He went so far as to say in a press conference on Tuesday that it’s “gonna happen”

He also told a lie.

Weigman proudly declared that he has “always wanted to beat Texas,” which is not true. The Lone Star State-native quite literally said otherwise in November of 2020 after Texas offered him a scholarship.

“It’s awesome,” Conner Weigman told Nick Harris of Horns 247. “Texas has been my dream school since I was three years old so that was a really cool moment.”

That certainly doesn’t sound like something that someone who has “always wanted to beat Texas” would say. Perhaps Weigman meant that his desire to beat the Longhorns started when he got on campus as an Aggie. Either way, to guarantee a win over Texas is certainly an interesting choice!
