Disgraced former Michigan Wolverines staffer Connor Stalions is rising quickly back through the coaching ranks.

Unfortunately, it’s for a somewhat tragic reason.

Stalions was recetly named the defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford High School according to The Detroit News. But after head coach Williams McMichael suffered what he called “a mild stroke,” Stalions is now set to take the reins of his new team.

“I got the most hated man in college football right now, Connor Stalions,” McMichael initially said of the Stalions hiring. “He’s my defensive coordinator.”

McMichael’s son, Jeremiah Beasley, initially committed to and signed for Michigan. But Beasley transferred to Missouri after Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter followed Jim Harbaugh to the NFL.

“Jeremiah committed to Michigan, and I met (Stalions) during the recruiting process,” McMichael said. “He’s outstanding. I think he knows Michigan’s defense just as well as anyone else who was there with (former defensive coordinator Jesse) Minter and all of those guys.

McMichael told Brandon Marcello of 247Sports that he entered the hospital last Friday, Aug. 30, a day after a season-opening loss to Thurston. He remained in the hospital for three days.

Stalions resigned from his post with Michigan after an NCAA investigation into an illegal sign-stealing operation which he allegedly coordinated.

The investigation also led to the departure of assistant coach Chris Partridge and a two-game suspension for then-head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh went on to lead the Wolverines to their first national championship since 1997. But he then left to become the head coach of Los Angeles Chargers.

Harbaugh later received a one-year suspension and a four-year show-cause penalty from the NCAA for unrelated violations.

Stalions has not yet been punished by the NCAA. But the association is still in the midst of an investigation into the program and its proceedings.
