The UFC has released new audio from the iconic UFC 229 fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.

The footage shows just how intense things between the pair were, as Khabib’s corner could be heard telling Nurmagomedov to “kill” McGregor and “break his arm.”

Held on October 6, 2018, Khabib ultimately won via a 4th round submission (neck crank), making him the UFC Lightweight Champion and also preserving his undefeated record, as he improved to 27-0.

Nurmagomedov would fight just two more times in the UFC after his bout with McGregor, beating Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje to improve his record to 29-0, which it remains due to his retirement in 2020. The loss to Khabib was just the second UFC loss of McGregor’s career. Following his retirement from fighting, Khabib went into coaching for a few years before retiring from MMA entirely at the start of 2023.

McGregor’s UFC career has never been the same since losing to Khabib, as he’s lost three of his last four fights (including the loss to Khabib) and had to drop out of a planned fight earlier this summer due to injury. In recent years, McGregor has pursued ventures outside of the UFC such as launching the whiskey brand Proper No. 12, purchasing pubs in Dublin, and making his acting debut alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House.
