These days, it seems as if Conor McGregor is willing to do just about anything other than to step back into a UFC cage. He’s teased a big-money boxing match with Logan Paul in India (that probably isn’t happening). He’s talking about fighting in BKFC, and on Saturday McGregor laced up his boots and joined a rec league soccer match.
There was just one big problem. It appears that McGregor has never played the game is his life. For one, it was clear from picture McGregor posted on social media that he’d had never worn the cleats before and they were fresh out of the box. That’s an amateur mistake.

Then there’s the matter of him actually playing. The first video that surfaced from the match showed him trying to control a pass from just about five yards away. But instead of taking a nice calm, controlled touch, McGregor stumbles over the ball. He gives it away in the process and then immediately commits a blatant foul trying to win it back.

But wait, there’s more! The second video from the match was somehow even more egregious. It shows McGregor trying to strike a ball on the volley in an attempt to score. That’s fine enough as is. But McGregor comes nowhere near the ball and instead kicks from poor fella directly in the midsection, sending him crashing to the ground.

In general, the level of play in rec league soccer is not very high. It’s not supposed to be. More or less, it serves as a way for us old, washed up players to feel competitive while returning home without a trip to the hospital. But McGregor’s level of play is hilariously, staggeringly low. He’d have been better off trying just about any other sport there is.
For some who in theory has elite hand/foot-eye coordination, it definitely wasn’t on display in this match. And we imagine his teammates and opponents will be happy to never see him on the field again.
