Cristiano Ronaldo can make a case as being the world’s most beloved athlete. The soccer superstar is the most-followed person on Instagram and is recognizable in practically every corner of the globe.

Hundreds of millions would be desperate to meet him, and at UEFA Euro 24, one youngster ran out on the field to do just that. It’s what happened after that is one of the most heartwarming stories of the year.

Ronaldo, playing for his native Portugal, is likely playing in his final Euros as a 39-year-old. And, Portugal is off to a great start with him in the starting lineup. They won their first match, 2-1, in dramatic fashion over the Czech Republic. And, on Saturday, they dominated Turkey, winning 3-0. Ronaldo hasn’t scored yet, but I’m sure he’d much rather them keep winning, even if it means that keeps her off the scoresheet.

The real headline coming out of the game is his interaction with a young fan who stormed the field to get a selfie with Ronaldo midway through the second half. Rather than run away, Ronaldo embraced the kid and took a selfie with him. Take a look.

Sadly, there were five pitch invaders in total during the game trying to get to Ronaldo, and that certainly shouldn’t be encouraged, even if it’s a little kid. But, it’s hard to say that clip wasn’t pretty heartwarming.
