Chicago Cubs’ shortstop Dansby Swanson is much like the rest of America in that has has been rooting for the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) in the Paris Olympics.

Of course, he has a little more vested interest than most in the USWNT qualifying for the gold medal match against Brazil on Saturday. His wife Mallory Swanson is on the team. And she’s been killing it.

Asked about Mallory’s performance during the Olympic Games, Dansby couldn’t say enough nice things and expressed just how proud he is of his wife.

“The amount of times she’s pretty much made me cry over the last two weeks watching her is pretty ridiculous,” Dansby Swanson said.

“Just so proud of her journey that’s she’s been on ever since we got here together, it’s pretty hard to put into words. God’s done so much for her and is using her in so many beautiful ways and just allowing her to kind of shine his light every time she plays and the people that she comes across and her joy and gratitude is just so, so inspirational.”

“I’m so thankful to be a part of it and do all that I can to help her from afar. Whatever it is, I’ll do,” he continued.

“Man, I could go on for hours about it. It’s just so amazing watching the person you love the most do something that they love and chasing a dream and do it with the beauty and grace she does it with. It’s pretty special.”

“He deserves a Wife Guy gold medal,” one fan wrote in response to what he said.

So far during the Olympics, Mallory Swanson is tied for the team lead with three goals and two assists with Sophia Smith.

The gold medal match between the United States and Brazil takes place on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET and will air on USA Network, Telemundo and Peacock. It will also re-air Saturday night in primetime.
