Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic is using his professional career as an escape from his personal life. Not only has he said as much, but his box scores in recent weeks have been reflecting that fact.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic and his wife Anamaria Goltes had separated, with sources saying the pair are now in a custody battle.
Asked about the situation this week, Doncic says he’s been finding “peace” in playing basketball amidst the custody battle.
“That’s life, I don’t know what to say. But that’s my job so I have to be here. They pay me a lot to play for them so… and also basketball is giving me some kind of peace when I play a game,” Doncic told the media.

Doncic’s recent stats certainly suggest he means what he says about finding peace in the game, as he’s been averaging 37 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists per game since the news about his divorce broke. The Lakers are also 6-0 in that span, leading NBA fans on social media to dub “Custody Battle Luka” one of the greatest players of all time.

“I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” Doncic said about his family
“Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.”

Doncic and the Lakers are certainly getting hot at the right time, as their six-game winning streak has propel them to the third seed in the Western Conference with the playoffs set to start in about a month.
