Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is facing backlash from NFL fans over the contract advice he gave wide receiver George Pickens. Pickens had a non-exclusive franchise tag placed on him by the franchise earlier this offseason.
The Cowboys placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on George Pickens, meaning the two sides have until mid-July to come to an agreement on a multi-year deal before the non-exclusive franchise tag becomes locked in for the season.
While Dak Prescott was likely coming from a good place, his comments have been perceived as being hypocritical given the size of the contract he made sure to secure himself — four years and $240 million.

“George loves football,” Prescott said. “That’s the one thing about it. I just want him to know, don’t change your love for football. Don’t get in the business mind of this. You played last year on a one-year [deal] for not even that much, right? So, if you can go $30 [million] or whatever it is now, I think it’s the same thing I got when I was franchised, hey, go do it.
“At the end of the day, bet on yourself. He’s a hell of a player. Hopefully, we can get him long-term and sign that but, if not, I think the way he plays the game, the person that he is, he’ll be just fine.”

In his first season with the Dallas Cowboys, Pickens — whom they acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason — was named to the Pro Bowl after he had 93 catches for 1,429 yards and 9 receiving touchdowns.
