Dak Prescott Hints At Leaving Dallas Cowboys Amid Ongoing Contract Dispute

Death, taxes, and Dak Prescott starting at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.

Those three things have been a certainty since Prescott took over for an injured Tony Romo in 2016. But it may not always be the case going forward.

Prescott told reporters Thursday that he may well end up playing somewhere else if the Cowboys can’t work out a new contract extension.

“You know, I’m going to say it: I want to be here, but you know when you look up all the great quarterbacks I’ve watched, they’ve played for other teams,” Prescott said. “So my point in saying that is that that’s not something to fear. That may be a reality for me one day. … “Be where your feet are, make the most of it. Be confident in yourself, make the team better. I love my teammates. I love that locker room. I love everything about being out here in Oxnard and being a Dallas Cowboy. So that’s what allows me to be free and focus.”

Prescott is coming off perhaps the best season of his career. He threw for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions to lead the Cowboys to an NFC East championship. He also finished second behind Lamar Jackson in the NFL MVP voting.

But Prescott once again struggled in the playoffs and that appears to be enough to have Jerry Jones considering his options at the quarterback position.

“I do not think that this will be his last year with the Cowboys, at all,” Jones said at the Cowboys’ introductory training camp press conference on Thursday.

Ultimately, it’s Jones’ job to ensure that. The same can be said of star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and pass rusher Micah Parsons. Both of whom are without long-term deals.

But these are the Dallas Cowboys. And this is Jerry Jones. So not even he likely knows what happens next.
