Teresa Earnhardt, the third wife of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, has some big plans to cash in on a large parcel of land she acquired following his tragic death in 2001. But Kerry Earnhardt, Dale’s oldest son and Teresa’s stepson, isn’t having it.
According to a report by the Charlotte Observer, Teresa hopes to sell 399 acres of undeveloped land in Mooresville, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. The plan includes a $30 billion data center to be billed on the property.
Kerry, however, is leading a vocal charge by the Mooresville community to oppose the data center. He took to social media on Thursday to explain why he’s so vehemently against the plan.
Dad would be livid, his name is associated in this title!Data Centers don’t belong in neighborhoods..natural resources are depleted, wildlife uprooted! The landscape, lives that call this home..forever changed. Build homes w/people loving the land we live as land it’s intended! https://t.co/d354jhNjWY

Kerry Earnhardt Isn’t Happy With Teresa’s Plans For Her Father’s Land
“Dad would be livid,” Kerry posted on X. “His name is associated in this title! Data Centers don’t belong in neighborhoods..natural resources are depleted, wildlife uprooted! The landscape, lives that call this home..forever changed. Build homes w/people loving the land we live as land it’s intended!
Ultimately, the only way the deal doesn’t go through is if Mooresville residents are successful in their opposition to the plan. Kerry alone has no real power to prevent Teresa Earnhardt from selling the land, which she currently owns.
But it’s not the first time one of Dale’s sons has been at odds with Teresa.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Had A Longstanding Feud With Teresa After His Father’s Death
When Dale Earnhardt tragically passed away after a crash in the 2001 Daytona 500, his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. was racing in the NASCAR Cup Series for Dale Earnhardt Incorporated.
Earnhardt Sr. co-owned the team with Teresa, and when he passed away, she took full control of the team. She then made multiple decisions that led to a rift with Dale Earnhardt Jr., leading to him leaving the team in 2008 for Hendrick Motorsports.
Dale Earnhardt Inc. later lost its two biggest sponsors, Budweiser and US Army, and Teresa merged with Chip Ganassi Racing before selling her stake entirely to Ganassi in 2014.
On an episode of the “Dale Jr. Download” podcast, former Executive Vice President of Motorsports at Dale Earnhardt Inc. Ty Norris revealed how Teresa told him that ““If Dale Jr. doesn’t want to stick around here we’ll make another Dale Jr.”
Surprisingly, that did not work out.
Dale Jr. and Teresa have improved their relationship in recent years. But it’s still tenuos at best. And given the latest situation regarding his land, it doesn’t appear things are headed in the right direction between Teresa and Dale’s children.
