The Dallas Cowboys, whether people like it or not, the NFL’s marquee franchise from a money standpoint. Jerry Jones has created a financial powerhouse in his 35 years of ownership.

The NFL does have a salary cap, so it’s not as if teams get to spend freely on player salaries and take advantage of their market share/size. But, it still doesn’t make a ton of sense that the league’s richest team has spent the least amount of money this offseason

Earlier in the offseason, Jerry Jones claimed the motto for the Cowboys’ offseason was “all-in”. And, why wouldn’t it be? Despite the consistent playoff disappointment, Dallas is built to win now.

The Cowboys have gone 12-5 in the regular season in three straight seasons, but only have one playoff win to show for it. Still, they’re loaded at key spots.

This year would be the year to go for it, as they haven’t had to pay CeeDee Lamb or Micah Parsons yet. That should, in theory, open up cap space to have a loaded roster elsewhere. And, they do have a lot of good players. But, they simply were not aggressive at all. Take a look at their spending compared to other teams.

With the way you can get creative regarding the NFL salary cap by having your owner take on heavy up-front costs to reduce cap hits, it is a fair question to ask why Jerry Jones did not try to do that to acquire some more talent for this upcoming season in a wide-open NFC.

According to Sportrac, they still have $12 million to spend. Maybe they’ll use that at the trade deadline or on the waiver wire during the season. But, this was certainly not an all-in offseason. With a roster where it seems like a piece or two could’ve potentially gotten the Dallas Cowboys over the hump, it is pretty puzzling.
