Just ahead of the start of the 2024/25 NFL season, casual dining chain Applebee’s dropped a new 30-second commercial featuring Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
The commercial is to promote Applebee’s 50-cent boneless wing special and was published on the company’s official YouTube page on Tuesday, September 3.
In the commercial, Dan Campbell takes on the role of an Applebee’s server, humorously covering his mouth with a checkbook, much like a play-caller would with a play sheet during a game.
“Welcome to Applebee’s,” Campbell begins before putting a receipt holder over his mouth. “Can I interest you in America’s favorite boneless wings just 50 cents each?”
As the customer begins to answer, Campbell warns: “Cover your mouth. They can steal your order!”
Campbell and the Detroit Lions, one of the betting favorites to win the NFC and Super Bowl this season, will kick off their 2024/25 campaign in primetime with a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on September 8.
After narrowly falling to the San Francisco 49ers in last season’s NFC championship game, the Lions will be looking to build off a 2023 season that saw them win the NFC North with a record of 12-5.
At this time, the sports books have the Lions as the favorites to repeat as division champs, although Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers aren’t far behind.
Luckily for Lions fans, the NFL has handed the team a favorable schedule as far as quarterback Jared Goff is concerned, as 14 of their 17 regular season games are set to be played in a dome, where Goff seems to perform far better than he does on outdoor, uncovered fields.
Last season, for example, Goff 69% of his passes for 2,981 yards and 23 touchdowns with eight interceptions at indoor stadiums, while completing 64.5% of his passes for 1,594 yards and seven touchdowns with four interceptions at outdoor stadiums.
