No, that is not a volcano erupting on the island of Maui, it’s just Dan Hurley. The 51-year-old college basketball coach is furious with the officials after UConn was called for a questionable ‘over the back‘ foul on Monday that was not called on its opponent less than 24 hours later.
The back-to-back reigning national champion Huskies dropped to 4-2 with their second-straight loss at the Maui Invitational on Tuesday and will now play for seventh place.
Hurley, one of the biggest personalities in college hoops, began his Feast Week by melting down on the referees at 9:30 in the morning. However, it was his tirade during overtime that proved costly against Memphis. Freshman forward Liam McNeeley picked up a foul with less than 50 seconds left in a tie game for what seemed like a clean rebound. Hurley went ballistic and picked up a technical foul.

Memphis pull of the upset with the help of Dan Hurley who got called for a technical foul for arguing an over the back call🤯

He proceeded to eviscerate the officiating during his postgame press conference.
Dan Hurley's thoughts on today's officiating:

"I had a lot of issues with what went on. That over-the-back call… there was a Memphis player that made a half-ass effort, Liam McNeeley high-pointed the rebound, and for that call to be made… was a complete joke. I may have lost… pic.twitter.com/w5AxFsZF5d
UConn returned to the court against Colorado on Tuesday. Although poor interior defense was the primary catalyst for its second loss in as many days, a horrendous no-call marred the result.
Dan Hurley was angry, again!
If McNeeley went “over the back” against the Tigers, Buffaloes forward Trevor Baskin committed an even more obvious “over the back” foul (or hook and hold) during the closing moments of a one-point game against the Huskies. It was not called.

Colorado ultimately went on to defeat UConn. However, the result might’ve flipped the other way if Baskin’s clean rebound was properly ruled as a foul. The Huskes would’ve had possession instead of the Buffaloes while up by one. Just to compare:

As could be expected, Dan Hurley was not pleased. He did manage to avoid another technical foul during a crucial situation. He did not manage to mask his displeasure.

His postgame press conference also reflected his anger toward the officials— and his team’s defense.

"Today's (no-call) felt more egregious. The kid pulled Liam McNeeley's arm down. I saw the replay of it. It's obviously ironic. But that's not why I think we lost. Our defense has been just, so dreadful. Just so dreadful." pic.twitter.com/V3iuN5ljnK
College basketball fans, especially those who root for the Buffs, were quick to point and laugh at the crybaby head coach. However, in this specific instance, Hurley’s anger was more than warranted. The same foul that was called against his team on Monday was not called against his opponent on Tuesday.
