Dan Hurley is so back. The two-time national championship-winning head coach at UConn went absolutely ballistic on his college basketball players during an exhibition game on Tuesday night.

They were winning by double digits.

The Huskies led the Spartans of Michigan State wire-to-wire during their college basketball scrimmage. That did not stop their head coach from losing his mind over a frustrating sequence during the second half.

There are very few coaches like Dan Hurley left. He brings an old-school mentality to an era of collegiate athletics where the players often prefer a softer, kinder and gentler approach. It’s great for the sport.

We have seen Hurley freak out on referees at 9:30 in the morning. We have seen him freak out on fans. He also freaks out on opposing coaches.

It was his players who were subject to his wrath on Tuesday night.

UConn played Michigan State at PeoplesBank Arena. The Huskies led the exhibition game from start to finish and ultimately won by seven.

However, the final score of these preseason scrimmages do not matter.

They are important for teaching purposes. Teams get an opportunity to work through the kings against quality competition. Coaches get to experiment with different lineups. Players get to put all of the work they put in during the offseason to the test.

UConn basketball players got an earful.

This specific sequence took place with just under 12 minutes left in the second half.

UConn took a 63-44 lead over Michigan State with 11:26 remaining. The Spartans quickly scored five unanswered points that were aided by free throws.

The Huskies landed in the bonus with four fouls in less than 90 seconds. Hurley was furious.

He called a timeout to talk to his players, except he did not talk. He yelled.
