Barring something entirely unforeseen, Daniel Jones has played his last NFL game as a member of the New York Giants. The Giants made that abundantly clear when they demoted Jones to fourth-string quarterback and forced him to play as a scout team safety this past week.
While there’s no need to weep for Jones, who is being paid an eye-watering amount of money not to play football, it does feel as if the organization is going above and beyond to humiliate him at this point. Now it seems Jones has well and truly gotten the message, as he offered a heartfelt goodbye message to New York fans on Thursday.

“The opportunity to play for the New York Giants was truly a dream come true and I’m extremely grateful to the Mara and Tisch families for the chance to play here,” Jones said in a prepared statement. “The Giants are truly a first-class organization and I have nothing but genuine respect and appreciation for the people who have built it and who helped carry on that tradition. I’ve met so many special people and created relationships that will truly last a lifetime.
“Thank you to all my teammates, coaches and staff that have done so much for me these past six years. There have been some great times, but of course, we all wish there had been more of those. I take full responsibility for my part in not bringing more wins. No one wanted to win more games worse than me and I gave everything I had on the field and in my preparation.”
Daniel Jones’ Message To Giants Shows He Believes He Can Still Play In The NFL
Jones’ message is a bit strange considering he could technically play for New York at some point in the next seven weeks. But this sounds like the words of a man who knows he’s never going to see the field again for the organization. However, he hasn’t given up completely on his NFL dream.
“I love the game. I love being part of a team. I’m excited for the next opportunity and know that there’s a lot of good football in front of me and I’m excited about that,” Jones continued.
He also took time to thank Giants fans. While that may seem like an obvious move, it’s not as if fans were particularly great to him in recent years.
“To all the fans, I’ve got deep respect and appreciation for your passion and love for the Giants,” Jones said. “The fans are a huge part of what makes playing for the Giants special.”
Yes, Jones was undeniably a bust. He was well-paid and underdelivered massively. But it just goes to show that all these guys are human. And Daniel Jones has clearly been hurt by the reality that his time in New York is over.
