Despite reports from last season that the New York Giants were having “buyer’s remorse” over handing Daniel Jones a lucrative contract extension, all signs point to him being the franchise’s starting quarterback in 2024.

According to reporter Connor Hughes at New York-based network SNY, although it’s still admittedly early in the offseason, Daniel Jones has “run away” with the starting quarterback job during OTA practices.

Hughes added that backup quarterbacks Drew Lock, who was signed in the offseason, and Tommy DeVito, who started a few games for the team last year, have been “no real” threat to Jones’ job.

Jones, 27 years old, is coming off of a season where he started in the fewest games of his NFL career as he made just six appearances due to a torn ACL. Jones injury was particularly frustrating for Giants fans as the team had just handed him a four-year, $160 million contract extension.

While Jones has had solid completion percentages throughout his career — he’s never been below 61.9% and had a career-best 67.5% last year — he’s only cracked 3,000 passing yards twice, with one of those times coming during his rookie season in which he threw for 3,027 yards.

The Giants drafted Jones out of Duke University with the 6th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The G-Men are certainly trying to help Jones succeed this year as they drafted LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers with their 1st round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft (also #6 overall).
