Flag footballer Darrell Doucette is not ready to simply hand over his Olympic spot to NFL players in the 2028 Summer Games. The quarterback let the world know his opinion on the situation this weekend.

Doucette blasted the notion that those pro stars are entitled to roster spots due to name and popularity alone.

The NFL has encouraged its players to take a swipe at competing in Los Angeles with flag football being added to the list of sports on the ’28 Olympic ballot.

The league recently shared a video of quarterback Jalen Hurts tossing a flaming football through a torch, further adding to speculation of an NFL presence in the coming Summer Games.

That video was met with immediate backlash, and Doucette was one of the loudest critics.

He’s not happy with the insinuation that pro stars will be given priority in the ’28 Olympic Games. He says they haven’t earned it!

“I think it’s disrespectful that they just automatically assume that they’re able to just join the Olympic team because of the person that they are – they didn’t help grow this game to get to the Olympics,” Doucette told The Guardian. “Give the guys who helped this game get to where it’s at their respect.”

“We just don’t think they’re going to be able to walk on the field and make the Olympic team because of the name, right?” he continued. “They still have to go out there and compete.”

The Guardian wrote that Darrell Doucette took the Jalen Hurts video to be a clear “threat to his job,” which he won’t give up without a fight!

Most assume the Olympic roster will be littered with NFL players should they ultimately decide to join forces to comprise a US Dream Team. They are the best in the world, after all!

Doucette isn’t ready to give them that crown quite yet. He’ll look to beat out Hurts and any other pro passers that stand in the way of Olympic journey.
