Davante Adams will be reunited with Aaron Rodgers as a member of the New York Jets. The Las Vegas Raiders received exactly what they wanted for their star wide receiver in a trade that was agreed upon on Tuesday morning.

The AFC West organization’s decision to sit tight and play hardball proved to be the right one.

It was reported on the first day of October that Adams informed his team of a desire to be traded. His request was well received and the Raiders informed other teams that they were willing to move him.

Las Vegas set its price for the superstar wide receiver at a second-round pick and “additional compensation.” New York agreed to the former but not the latter.

According to multiple reports, the Jets are sending a conditional third-round pick to the Raiders in exchange for Adams. The third-round pick can become a second-round pick if the pass-catcher is named as a First- or Second-Team AP All-Pro or is on the active roster for the AFC Championship or Super Bowl.

Although the aforementioned “additional compensation” was not included in the deal, the lucrative financial agreement involved with the trade will certainly suffice.

Las Vegas made it abundantly clear that it does not want to pay a single penny of Adams’ expensive contract after he is gone, which caused a league-wide hold up over the last two weeks. New York caved to the monetary demands after a loss to Buffalo on Monday night and agreed to pick up the entire tab.

The Davante Adams trade is not cheap!!

The Raiders signed Adams to a five-year, $140 million extension in 2022. His base salary for this season is $16.89 million. He is also under contract for $36.25 million in 2025 and 2026. The Jets will owe him $72.5 million over the next two years plus his pro-rated salary for the remaining games during the 2024 NFL season.

Even though Las Vegas did not get its exact sticker price in exchange for Davante Adams, it cleared up more than $75 million over the next three years and got a potential second rounder.
