The last fight of the UFC Fight Night: Walker vs Hill prelims was the most heavily debated of this weekend’s card. Fans were split between David Onama and Gabriel Benitez.
Some fans were impressed by Onama’s short notice UFC debut against Mason Jones and thought that he’d eventually be able to show off his finishing ability. Others believed Benitez would be the more technical striker and would be able to avoid the knockout blow long enough to win a decision.
For the first few minutes of the fight, it looked like the latter camp would be correct. Benitez was getting the better of the striking early and even had Onama in trouble after he seemingly landed a punch to Onama’s eye.
Then the power showed up.

It’s a highlight reel finish for a fighter who had done nothing but finish fights before entering the UFC. Now he has his first win in the organization and will likely be picking up an extra $50k to go along with it.
It will also keep him on the radars of just about every UFC fan who will want to keep an eye on him after an impressive start to his UFC career.
Benitez continues a brutal slide in his UFC career. He has now lost 4 of his last 5 fights and been finished in 3 of those fights. This could be the end of his run in the UFC and if it isn’t he’ll have his back agains the wall in his next fight.
David Onama has made it clear that he is going to bring the excitement every time he steps in the Octagon and fans should be looking forward to seeing who the UFC matches him up with next.
