Dax Shepard was one of the many celebrities who gathered inside the Beverly Hilton for the Golden Globes on Sunday night. The ceremony just so happened to coincide with the game between the Lions and Vikings, and the man who grew up less than an hour away from Detroit made it clear where his priorities lie by spending a good chunk of his night glued to the stream on his phone.

Many college football fans have come to fear weddings that fall on a Saturday in the fall due to their tendency to interfere with watching their team play, but there are obviously plenty of other instances where your ability to tune into a sporting event is derailed by another obligation.

On Sunday night, Dax Shepard found himself dealing with a situation most people will never be able to relate to when he and his wife Kristen Bell attended the Golden Globes in Los Angeles. The 82nd iteration of the event honoring the best movies and television shows of the year got underway at 5 P.M. in Los Angeles—which just so happened to be the same exact time the Lions and the Vikings kicked off their pivotal NFC North showdown in Detroit.

Shepard is a Michigan native who was born in Ypsilanti and raised in the town of Milford, and he and Bell (a Huntington Woods native) both pledge allegiance to the franchises that call the Great Lakes State home.

The stakes were pretty high for the Lions on Sunday night, as a win over the Vikings would lead to them clinching the NFC North and securing the top seed that’s accompanied by a bye and home-field advantage all the way up to the Super Bowl.

Shepard wasn’t going to let a pesky awards ceremony prevent him from watching his team play, and Bell—who was nominated for Best Actress in a musical or comedy series for her role in Nobody Wants This—captured him glued to his phone as the Lions attempted the field goal that gave them a 10-6 lead heading into the half while Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford were presenting the award for Best Animated Movie.

Bell ended up losing to Hacks star Jean Smart, but she and Shepard got a consolation prize after the Lions walked away with the 31-9 win at home.
