Deion Sanders is preparing for his first season as a college football coach without his son Shedeur playing quarterback, and it’s already off to a rough start. Sanders is reportedly away from the Colorado football program as it begins summer camps due to an “unspecified illness.”
Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today reports that Sanders, who has an extensive history of health issues, is being treated for the illness at his home in Texas while the Buffaloes program begins hosting summer camps for high school teams and prospects.
Deion Sanders And Son Deion Jr. Open Up On Longterm Absence Due To Health Scare
“He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,” Sanders’ son, Deion Jr. said on a recent YouTube live stream. “When we get back in Boulder, I don’t know. I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him.”
Sanders has a history of circulation issues and blood clots in his legs, leading to double-digit surgeries, including the amputation of two toes on his left foot.
During a podcast appearance in late May with former NFL defensive back Asante Samuel, Sanders said, “I’ve done no media. I’ve done nothing for a minute. So, coming on with you is something. I ain’t been in front of nobody for a minute. I lost about 14 pounds. I’m coming back, but I needed this.”
Samuel then asked Sanders if he’d ever tried fasting for his health issues, to which he replied, “What I’m dealing with right now is at whole ‘nother level.”
Obviously, Buffs fans and players will be hoping that Sanders returns to the program as swiftly as possible, not just for the good of the program but in hopes that signifies the head coach’s return to full health.
