Deion Sanders is demanding accountability within journalism after a report about his alleged request for Colorado to stop playing the fight song when his son, Shedeur, scores a touchdown. He wants to be abundantly clear that such demands are entirely untrue.

However, the university indirectly confirmed a specific nuance to the initial report…

Jake Shapiro of Denver radio station 104.3 The Fan started the dialogue after the Buffaloes’ blowout loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday. He said that Coach Prime told the band that it couldn’t play at all after touchdowns so the loudspeaker can play a recording of Shedeur’s rap song ‘Perfect Timing.’

Colorado pushed back on Shapiro’s report. But not really…

The university said that “nobody ever asked the band to refrain from playing the fight song.” The band plays ‘Glory, Glory, Colorado’ after a touchdown. It plays ‘Fight CU’ after an extra point.

Both of those things are still true— with a catch.

When Shedeur Sanders scores, the band will wait a moment for a small snippet of Shedeur’s song to play before immediately kicking into ‘Glory, Glory, Colorado.’ […]

This practice is not unique to Shedeur, as the band will wait a moment after a successful field goal to play Alejandro Mata’s song before playing ‘Fight CU.’

So… Deion Sanders did not ask the band not to play the fight song. He just asked them to wait to play the fight song so his son’s song can play first. The clarification is essentially just semantics and supports the underlying sentiment that came from Shapiro’s initial, slightly incorrect claim.

Sanders does not care that the university’s clarification does not change the optics of the request. In his eyes, it was not a minor discrepancy. To him, Shapiro’s report was a full-blown lie.

He torched the report during his press conference on Tuesday.

Whoever reported that I told the band not to play the fight song, that’s idiotic. We’ve got to start having some accountability for this […]

Coach Prime also issued a threat to Shapiro, and anyone else who tries to speak ill of his program. They better be careful because he could tear them down on social media at a moment’s notice.

He wont, but he could!

I have a huge platform. I could get really personal if I wanted to, but I chose not to do that, because it’s not right.

— Deion Sanders

Deion Sanders is choosing to die on the hill that Shapiro is a liar even though Colorado’s band is actively forced to wait to play after a touchdown because of Shedeur’s song. The initial report was not that far off…

Meanwhile, the Buffaloes are 1-1 after an 18-point loss in a game that was likely crucial to their chances of bowl eligibility. This is what they are focusing on in Boulder.
