The Deion Sanders sweepstakes are heating up as he continues to win in Boulder. Despite having a projected preseason win total of 5.5, he has the Buffs sitting at 7-2 and firmly in the Big 12 title race.
That success has only fanned flames of his potential departure from Colorado. The head coach is sure to garner interest at both the college and NFL levels.
Sanders arrived in Boulder ahead of the 2023 season, bringing with him a boatload of talent and exposure. While he went just 4-8 in that debut, he brought unrivaled attention to a Colorado program that won just one game the the year prior.
Now that he’s shown he can win in Year 2, speculation on his future is growing. Will he stay with the Buffs? He’s continued to insist that will be the case. While speaking with former teammate Michael Irvin earlier this week, he shut down the idea of taking another job.

“Don’t start that,” he said as Irvin attempted to lure him to the Dallas Cowboys. “I love it where I am.”
The Cowboys aren’t the only former team that’s been linked to Deion Sanders. His alma mater, Florida State, could soon be looking for a new coach given the drastic drop-off experienced in 2024. After going 13-1 last year, the Seminoles are 1-9 on the field this season.
While it seems unlikely the program would move on from Mike Norvell so quickly after his undefeated regular season, Sanders’ name holds weight. If they’d take a chance on anyone, it could be Prime.
Most of the noise thus far, however, involves the NFL. Much of that is due to his son, Shedeur’s, immediate future. The quarterback is in his final season with the Buffs and is projected to be the first signal caller off the board in the upcoming draft. ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested that the Sanders duo could be a package deal at the next level.

Sanders has already admitted that he’ll have an influence in the draft process. He refuses to let his son be placed somewhere he sees unfit.
Shedeur Sanders has been successful at every stop, which also includes Jackson State. His father has been his head coach throughout his collegiate career. Schefter insinuates that the trend could continue into the NFL.
Deion Sanders has remained firm on his desire to stay at Colorado. He’s been adamant in his denial of interest in an NFL job. His son’s upcoming draft date makes things interesting. Schefter insists that you should never say never!
