While many NFL fan consider Shedeur Sanders’ selection to the Pro Bowl to be the final nail in the coffin for the dying exhibition game, his father Deion Sanders made sure to display his trademark bravado when publicly reacting to the news.

During a recent episode of his We Got Time Today podcast, Deion Sanders — the Pro Football Hall of Famer and current University of Colorado head football coach — gloated about his son Shedeur Sanders being selected to the Pro Bowl in his rookie year.

Deion Sanders reacted to Shedeur Sanders being elected to the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster by suggesting it’s the result of Divine Intervention

“My son did something that I didn’t do,” Deion Sanders said on the We Got Time Today podcast. “He made the Pro Bowl in his first year. I made it in my third year. But he made it in his first year, so he’s got that over me right now.”

“It’s more like a, not an ‘I told you so’ moment, more like a ‘God is good’ moment. Y’all don’t understand what I’m on, like… y’all don’t understand who got my back. Like, y’all don’t understand who ride with me. Y’all don’t understand who is propelling me. That’s what it is.”

After suggesting that God got Shedeur got elected to the Pro Bowl, Sanders then explained that, actually, the Pro Bowl roster has more to do with coaches and players than with fans.

“Most people don’t know, the major percentage is from the coaches and the players — their selection. Then the fans get smaller percentage of votes, like, 40-40-20. So that has to be noted… it’s not just a fan thing.”

Sanders —  who played in eight games and completed 56.6% of his passes for 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, with just a 6.6 yards-per-attempt average — was named to the Pro Bowl earlier this week as a replacement for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who will be starting in the Super Bowl.

“Thank you God. I’m beyond excited and extremely grateful for all the love and support from the coaches, players, and fans. This wouldn’t be possible without the support behind me. Still plenty of work to do,” the Browns QB said in a statement.

The 2026 Pro Bowl Games — the fourth year of it being a non-contact flag football game and the first to be held *during* Super Bowl week as opposed to the Sunday before the big game — will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
