Deion Sanders’ first season at Colorado began with a bang before it ultimately crashed and burned. The Buffaloes began the year at 3-0 but managed to miss out on a bowl game at 4-8.

The result, while a big improvement over the one-win season in 2022, was a huge disappointment. Fortunately, Coach Prime claims that there will be plenty of time to get things figured out.

He apparently does not plan on leaving Boulder — ever. Or so he says!

Deion Sanders recently declared that he is going to retire as the college football coach at Colorado during an interview with Savannah Sellers of NBC News Now. It was the first and only time that he made such a significant and definitive statement about his future in the sport.

Let me tell you something. I love Boulder, Colorado and Colorado.

Even though it has been less than 365 days since his arrival to the FBS level, there is already constant speculation about whether/when Coach Prime will leave for more money at a bigger job. He says that none of those things matter.

I’m not chasing finance. I’m not chasing the bag. I’m not chasing notoriety. I’m not chasing hype.

I love what I do and I do what I love. And I love Boulder, Colorado.

Sanders proceeded to say that he will retire in his current role, in very specific fashion.

I don’t plan on being anywhere else in my coaching career. It is my desire to one day retire, and just walk off… not walk off —

I want to ride off on a white horse with a black hat in Boulder, Colorado. Winning a championship.

That’s what I want — championships, plural. That’s what I want to do.

There you have it!

Sanders wants to retire as a multi-time national championship head coach at the University of Colorado. This will be his last job……………….. ever?

Now that these words have been said, on the record, it will be interesting to see how long they are true. He might just be saying these things for recruiting purposes. He might be lying through his teeth.

Either way, one thing is for certain: the Buffaloes went from the greatest story in sports back in September to a joke by November. Sanders won’t get another job offer until he wins more games.

Then, and only then, will we find out if he is telling the truth about his plans to retire in Boulder!
