Deion Sanders Doing Part To Cover Former Walk-On’s Tuition After Leaving Team For Health Concern

Deion Sanders is doing his best to make sure the former walk-on is taken care of after leaving the team. He ensured that his remaining tuition at Colorado will be covered and is hoping to do more.

Offerdahl was on the team when Coach Prime took over in Boulder. He was one of the few holdovers after Sanders flipped the Buffs roster.

He remained with the program in a walk-on capacity before earning a scholarship in 2024.

Charlie Offerdahl is a fan favorite.

He began his career in a scout team role. He then set a school record for rushing yards in a season by a walk-on player as a redshirt freshman. The ball carrier’s done nothing but continue to win the fanbase over in the years to follow.

He earned the respect of Deion Sanders with his play in 2023. That was demonstrated in a promotion from walk-on to scholarship player in 2024.

Last year, Offerdahl scored his first career touchdown. His head coach couldn’t have been happier!

Unfortunately, he won’t get an opportunity to add to that total in 2025.

The running back is stepping away amid health concerns.

Charlie Offerdahl suffered a serious concussion that’s caused him to miss the summer with the team. He will not return in the fall.

The senior informed teammates of his plan about a month out from the season opener.

“Obviously, I haven’t been here this summer, and if it’s not obvious already, I won’t be coming back this year,” he said while addressing the team.

“With how serious this last concussion was, and how many I’ve had leading up to it, it was pretty scary for me… I will be hanging it up.”

Offerdahl thanked teammates, staff, and coaches in his retirement announcement. He was appreciative of everything that’s been done for him over the last few years.

The blessings will continue for a bit longer if his head coach has any say.

Deion Sanders is making sure Charlie Offerdahl’s tuition is covered.

He ensured the tailback would remain on scholarship at Colorado. He also wants to help with life after football.

The running back is majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology according to his athletic bio. He plans on becoming a dentist after graduation. Sanders made an ask to have Offerdahl’s dental school expenses covered, too.

The University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine could certainly be an option should he hope to remain close to the area. We’ll see if someone close to the program answers the bell.
