Deion Sanders is willing to admit that he plays favorites with his Colorado players. However, he will not allow for the media to spread false narratives about the college football program in Boulder.

More specifically, Coach Prime shut down an ongoing rumor about his son Shedeur’s rap concert on camera for the first time.

All of this drama began back in April when Lil Wayne performed a show with YG on campus at Colorado. Shedeur Sanders also performed alongside his oldest brother, Deion Jr., as the opener.

According to a report that emerged earlier this month, Deion required his team to attend his son’s show. Anyone who did not go would allegedly be kicked off the team. Multiple disgruntled players who were tired of “daddy ball” saw the demand as the last straw and entered the transfer portal shortly thereafter.

A large number of active Buffaloes who did not leave the program spoke out against the report. They shut it down with a cryptic hint at who might’ve started the outside chatter.

The entire Sanders family were among those who publicly pushed back on the report. However, the latter only did so through posts on X at first. He addressed it on camera earlier this week.

Sanders was filming a commercial and invited some of his players to be part of the shoot.

Very few other coaches in the sport, if any, have the platform to film a commercial with their players. Coach Prime has done so on multiple occasions, and sometimes with the same guys. Hence how/why he plays favorites. The guys who work hard and bring personality to practice get rewarded— even if it is something that happens subconsciously. Seems pretty reasonable, no?

Amid the semi-serious discussion about favoritism, redshirt junior safety Ben Finneseth joked that his third appearance in one of Sanders’ commercials stemmed from his attendance at the concert.

That led Coach Prime to address all of the scuttlebutt on camera for the first time. He explained that some things are so ridiculous that all you can do is laugh!

Regardless what might have been said by his former players, Deion Sanders clearly finds it to be ludicrous. It certainly doesn’t seem like he required his team to attend the concert…
