The Las Vegas Raiders had a decision to make on first-year head coach Antonio Pierce following a 4-13 season. And, on Tuesday, they fired him, opening up another head coaching vacancy in the NFL.

Who are the Raiders going to hire? It probably won’t be Deion Sanders, but that doesn’t mean that people on social media aren’t buzzing about Las Vegas potentially hiring the Colorado head coach.

Sanders, who has no NFL coaching experience, has done a nice job at Colorado. Upon taking over a program that went 1-11 in 2022 and was probably the worst team in the Power 5, he led them to a nine-win season this year behind son Shedeur Sanders at quarterback and two-way Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. That’s a huge improvement, to say the least, even if the team was considerably boosted by those two players.

Travis Hunter is a near-lock to be taken in the top-five of the NFL Draft in April, and Sanders could go as high as the first-overall pick, though scouts are pretty split on his chops at the next level. Another one of Deion’s sons, Shiloh, is out of eligibility and will go to the NFL Draft.

That is leading to speculation that Deion Sanders would leave Colorado, and almost certainly would for an NFL head coach position. The Raiders have the 6th-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Could they hire Deion and draft Shedeur? Many on social media think so.

Is this going to happen? I doubt it. But, you can’t put anything past Mark Davis and the Las Vegas Raiders. Bringing in the Pro Football Hall of Famer would certainly be a splash hire.
