No quarterback in NFL history has ever lost a game to all 32 teams in the league, but Derek Carr will now have the chance to become the first one later this season after checking the second-to-last box when the Saints fell to the Panthers.
You obviously need to possess a fair amount of talent to last more than a decade as a quarterback in the NFL. Derek Carr may not be destined for the Hall of Fame based on the 74–90 record he’s posted as a starter midway through his 11th campaign, the 33-year-old who’s raked in close to $200 million in career earnings has done pretty well for himself.
The QB endured a bit of a roller coaster ride during the nine years he spent as a member of the Raiders, and while he got off to a respectable start with the Saints after leading them to a 9-8 record last season, things are not looking good for a New Orleans team that got off to a 2-0 start but is currently in the midst of a seven-game losing streak.
Carr was sidelined for three of those losses but made his grand return when the Saints faced off against the Panthers on Sunday. He warned fans he’s “no savior” prior to that contest, and that reality was confirmed when he and the rest of the offense were unable to mount the two-minute drill they needed to avoid befalling the 23-22 loss.
As Pro Football Talk notes, Carr became the first QB in NFL history to lose to 31 different franchises after getting beat by Carolina, and it seems like there’s a solid chance he could make it all 32 when the Saints and the Raiders face off against each other on December 29th (which is slated to be a showdown tailormade for NFL Sickos based on how dismal his former team has also looked this season).
On the flip side of the coin, there are four quarterbacks who were able to beat every single NFL franchise over the course of their careers: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Brett Favre.
It’s worth noting Favre managed to set a dubious record of his own thanks in no small part to his longevity, as the 336 interceptions he threw during his 20 NFL seasons are firmly the most any NFL QB has managed to toss.
