Anyone who’s played organized sports knows it’s a good idea to keep your head down when you’re on the wrong side of a blowout, and Derek Carr reminded Panthers CB Jaycee Horn why that’s the case while the Saints were cruising to a win over Carolina on Sunday.

There wasn’t much evidence to suggest the Carolina Panthers were going to be able to turn things around this year after following up a 7-10 campaign in 2022 with a painful 2-15 season in 2023, and it would appear their fans are in for another four months of suffering based on how they looked against the New Orleans Saints.

Based on all of the evidence at hand, there isn’t a single conference in the NFL that features a more mediocre quartet of teams than the NFC East, and while oddsmakers seem to think the Saints will struggle to post a winning record when everything is said and done, Carolina made them look pretty good in a game where New Orleans walked away with the 47-10 victory.

The contest was basically over by the time the second quarter wrapped up, as the Saints scored 30 unanswered points before the Panthers added a field goal as time expired to head into the locker room down 30-3.

Derek Carr also put together a pretty solid performance, as he completed 19 of the 23 throws he attempted while passing for 200 yards and tossing three touchdowns—including a 59-yard strike to Rashid Shaheed to open up the scoring after his wide receiver torched Jaycee Horn on a post route less than three minutes into the showdown.

The Saints were up 37-10 as the third quarter was coming to an end when Horn seemingly made the ill-advised decision to chirp Carr before the quarterback quickly reminded him he was responsible for three of the four touchdowns the Panthers defense had surrendered to that point.

There’s no coming back from a “Scoreboard” rebuke.
