Derik Queen became one of the biggest stars in college basketball during his freshman season at Maryland. Not only did he finish as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, he has one of the funniest personalities in sports and does not care if he ruffles some feathers along the way.

His most recent posts on social media are the latest example. Fans are choosing to interpret the messaging however it best fits their specific program.

Queen, a five-star prospect in the college basketball recruiting Class of 2024, was ranked as the No. 3 player at his position and the No. 12 player overall. He averaged 16.5 points on 52.6% shooting, 9.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game as part of the Crab Five. The Terrapins played their way into the Sweet 16 as a 4-seed. Queen also hit a buzzer-beater in the Round of 32.

Not long after Maryland lost, Kevin Willard left for the same job at Villanova. The 49-year-old head coach repeatedly lied to his players before fleeing College Park for Pennsylvania in the middle of the night.

Only two players on the Terrapins’ roster remain. Chance Stephens and Derik Queen have not entered the transfer portal. I cannot speak to the former, but it does not appear as though the latter plans to do so.

Queen may decide to enter the NBA Draft pool. If not, he is already a fan of new head coach Buzz Williams.

It also made him uncomfortable to see Willard in Villanova gear.

Those two posts by themselves would allude to the idea that Derik Queen is going to return to Maryland. He does not have interest in transferring. Unless…

Some Wildcats fans interpreted his most recent post as an indication of his imminent departure. Some Terrapins fans also started to panic that he might leave.

I don’t see it that way. I think he’s just having a laugh. Unless…
