Former Michigan defensive end Derrick Moore went one-on-one with Arizona State offensive lineman Max Iheanachor at the Senior Bowl. He lost the rep and threw a punch.
It was a bad look.
One of the top performers of the week could not keep his composure during a moment of adversity. His inability to control his emotions reflects back on the culture of the college football program in Ann Arbor.
Who is Derrick Moore?
Moore committed to Michigan as a four-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2022 out of St. Frances Academy in Maryland. He played every single year of his four-year college football career with the Wolverines, which is rare in the modern era, and won a national title in 2023.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end recorded 87 tackles (55 solo), seven pass deflections, 19 sacks and three forced fumbles over the last three seasons. His 2025 campaign was his best. Michigan had the 23rd-ranked dense in the country. Moore made 30 total tackles, 19 solo, with a career-high 10 sacks.
Derrick Moore received an invitation to the Senior Bowl as a result of his strong senior season. It has been a good week for the former Michigan edge rusher.
He ran through Markell Bell’s face on Tuesday.

NFL scouts are impressed by Moore’s performance. This week will boost his Draft stock.
Michigan still threw a punch after a loss.
Although Derrick Moore is grabbing headlines with his strong play, there have been some not-so-good moments as well. This was the rep right after he destroyed Bell:

And then there was the fight on Wednesday.
Arizona State offensive tackle Max Iheanachor dominated Moore during one-on-ones. Moore got frustrated and threw a punch. Iheanachor wore two blows before he eventually swung back.

The outbreak of fisticuffs stemmed entirely from Moore losing the rep.

Such a minor fight during a high-intensity practice is not going to sour the opinion of NFL scouts. They might even like that Derrick Moore plays with such a big chip on his shoulder and can’t stand to lose.
That does not change the optics! A Michigan Man could not control his emotions when things did not go his way. Does his frustration stem from a culture problem in Ann Arbor? Derrick Moore’s short fuse is a direct testament to how Sherrone Moore and the previous staff led the Wolverines program.
