There was no love lost between Colorado and Colorado State when the two teams faced off over the weekend, and the same can be said for some of their fans based on a video that captured Celtics star Derrick White getting hit in the face to spark a brawl in the stands.

Derrick White took a fairly unlikely path to the NBA, as the man who dominated 2024 by winning his first NBA title with the Boston Celtics a couple of months before securing a gold medal as a member of Team USA at the Paris Olympics received virtually no interest from colleges after wrapping up his time at Legend High School in Parker, Colorado.

The guard eventually got the chance to continue his career by enrolling at the Colorado Springs branch of the University of Colorado system, and he took full advantage of the opportunity by transforming into a Division II All-American who led his squad to the NCAA Tournament in 2015.

White’s rise enabled him to transfer to Colorado’s main campus in Boulder for his senior season, and he proved he could more than hang at the nation’s top level by averaging over 18 points en route to being drafted by the Spurs with the 29th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

On Saturday, White (who graduated from Colorado with a degree in Business Management) headed back to his native state to watch his alma mater earn a 28-9 win over Colorado State in the grudge match that was held in Fort Collins Saturday night.

Based on a video that was obtained by TMZ Sports, White found himself trading words with a Rams fan toward the start of the third quarter before the spectator swung at him and managed to knock his hat off of his head before some other members of the Buffaloes faithful smartly intervened to prevent the Olympian from retaliating.

It looks like cooler heads eventually prevailed, and there doesn’t appear to be any police report concerning the incident.
