Deshaun Watson’s Start To The Season Is Worse Than All Of The Other Terrible Browns Quarterbacks Over The Years

The Cleveland Browns thought they were getting the franchise quarterback they’d coveted since the team was re-established in 1999 when they traded for troubled-but-talented Deshaun Watson before the 2022 season. As we all know, that’s not what has happened, and they’re stuck with a bad quarterback and albatross contract.

Just how bad has Deshaun Watson been so far this season? Through three games, at least one advanced metric has Deshaun Watson as the worst browns quarterback in 25 years!

Watson was downright awful in Week 1’s blowout loss to the Dallas. He was a little better in the team’s Week 2 win over the Jaguars, but was terrible once again as the team lost as heavy favorites to the New York Giants.

Watson was 21/37 for 196 yards and two touchdowns. On the surface, that’s not the worst day. But, his QBR was 27.2, and he had a -0.4 EPA, which is a dreadful number.

EPA, which stands for estimated points added, is a way to use analytics to measure team and quarterback success. Without getting in the weeds too much, the formula tries to give value to plays that move the team closer to scoring points. For example, an 8-yard completion on 3rd and 7 is worth much more than an 8-yard completion on 3rd and 15. It takes situations into account.

And, Deshaun Watson has been the worst quarterback via EPA than any Browns starter in the first three weeks in 25 years.  When you see this list of names, it will truly set in just how bad he has been.

Yeah, Deshaun Watson has been worse than THOSE GUYS. Good thing he still has $70 million+ cap hit for 2025 and 2026.

At this point, the Browns should seriously consider making a change to Jameis Winston
