One of the most exciting young offensive weapons in the National Football League will be sidelined this season, as reports indicate Detroit Lions second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs has suffered a hamstring injury.

According to reports, Gibbs, 22 years old, had been dealing with a lingering hamstring injury in recent weeks before going down with an injury at Lions practice on Monday, August 12.

Neither the Lions nor Gibbs have yet to confirm the extent of his injury.

With the Lions being one of the betting favorites to win next season’s Super Bowl, losing a player who looked poised to have at least 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving will undoubtedly have an impact on the team’s prospects this season, which could ultimately alter the outcome of the NFC.

Luckily for the Lions, they do have a running back that’s plenty capable of carrying the load in David Montgomery, who had 219 carries for 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

Drafted with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Gibbs was one of the most exciting rookies in the league last season as he was named to the Pro Bowl. during his rookie season in Detroit, Gibbs played in 15 games and carried the ball 182 times for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also catching 52 passes for 316 yards and a touchdown.

Gibbs was also effective in the Lions’ run to the NFC Championship game, as he had 29 carries for 144 yards and 3 touchdowns, and 11 catches for 94 yards, in three playoff games.
