On Wednesday night WDIV-TV in Detroit reported that the Lions have engaged in trade talks involving quarterback Matthew Stafford.
As the report was floated out there, Stafford’s wife Kelly wasn’t too shy about voicing her opinion on where she would like to see her husband play by posting pictures of the Chargers on her Instagram with the caption ‘I could stay in Cali.’

As you would imagine, this really opened the trade rumor flood gates.
Lions GM Bob Quinn was quick to respond to the rumors sending a text to The Detroit Free Press saying the rumors are ‘100% false!’
Despite the fact that the team’s general manager shot down reports, WDIV is doubling down with their initial report that Stafford’s name has been tossed around in trade talks.
We stand by our story and by our sources. We find tremendous validity in what we are reporting because of what Kelly Stafford posted on Instagram. Before our report was made, she posted that if Detroit was done with her husband, then they would like to go to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers need a quarterback after Philip Rivers left.
The fact that Kelly posted that before our report tells us things were going behind the scenes, and our sources later confirmed it.
Again, we are only reporting trade talks for Stafford and those talks have definitely taken place.
I think you kind of have to respect the news outlet doubling down after Quinn took the time to shoot a newspaper a text saying that the rumors are false. Either the Lions are staying completely hush-hush about the whole situation, which would probably be the best move, and WDIV is going out on a limb (again) or WDIV actually does have an inside source.
Only time will tell.
Stafford has a potential out on his contract that goes into effect in 2021.
