New Mexico quarterback Devon Dampier was on fire during the first half of Saturday’s college football game against Montana State. He was having more fun than anybody else on the field and there is video to prove it!

The Lobos scored a touchdown right before halftime that made him laugh out loud on his way to the end zone.

Devon Dampier, a sophomore, was one of the very few bright spots on a team that went 4-8 last season. Bronco Mendenhall replaced Danny Gonzales as head coach during the offseason and overturned most of the roster through the transfer portal. However, he made sure that he was able to retain the electrifying dual-threat signal-caller.

It certainly proved to be the right move during the first 30 minutes of the new year.

New Mexico actually entered the game as 14-point underdogs at home. The Bobcats are one of the best teams on the FCS level and everybody seemed to think they would roll to victory over a bad FBS team.

That was not what happened during the first half. The Lobos went into the locker room at halftime with a 10-point lead. Dampier was 13-of-19 for 153 yards and a touchdown through the air with two carries for 23 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Most of that yardage came on the same scoring play and it was a thing of beauty. New Mexico lined up in an old school bunch formation to run an old school naked bootleg. Montana State could not have been more fooled.

Dampier too the snap and faked the handoff while the Bobcats crashed hard to the middle. Meanwhile, he quietly rolled to his left. Nobody on the defense knew he had the ball. Not one single person!

After pausing for a moment, Dampier took off running for an easy six.

The fake could not have worked any better. In fact, it worked so well that Devon Dampier was laughing the entire time. He looked up at the jumbotron to watch himself score with a huge smile on his face.

College football doesn’t get much better than that. New Mexico called the perfect play and its quarterback quite literally laughed his way across the goal line for a touchdown!
