Diana Taurasi could not be less interested in discussing her upcoming matchup against Caitlin Clark. She offered just four words in response to a question about the highly-anticipated WNBA game.

It is going to be spicy!

The Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury will play each other for the first time this season on Sunday. Taurasi has yet to face Clark. There is some beef there as competitors, whether they admit it or not.

Taurasi, 42, is a three-time champion. Clark, 22, is a rookie.

The former is widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. Some might even call her the G.O.A.T. The latter is the greatest scorer in college hoops history and immediately became the most popular player in league history after getting drafted No. 1 overall in April.

As a veteran, Taurasi offered a blunt warning to Clark about her transition to the WNBA during Iowa’s March Madness run. Although her comments were undoubtedly blown out of proportion, she made things much worse by insulting a new generation of fans while trying to clear the air on what she said.

To further the narrative, Taurasi went out of her way to bully Nika Mühl during the preseason. She later baptized another rookie into the league with an ice cold stare. It is not a secret that vets have a chip on their shoulder toward first-year players in every sport. That has been especially true in the WNBA!!

Despite how other players are treating Clark, Taurasi later clarified the true intention of her comments about Clark and downplayed all of the hullabaloo.

She is clearly uninterested in discussing Sunday’s game as more than just a game. A reporter asked about her thoughts on Wednesday evening and got only four words (and an eye roll) back.

Caitlin Clark’s games against Angel Reese continue to break WNBA ratings records. Her first matchup with Diana Taurasi is equally as hyped and the underlying tension between the two superstars is going to be played up to the fullest extent whether they want it to be or not!
