DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith are back together after an on-again, off-again situationship. The latter re-sparked their fire with various flirtatious gestures over the course of the WNBA season.
One particular moment went extremely viral and we finally got the backstory!
Before we get there, lets rewind. Carrington and Smith played college basketball together at Baylor. Rumors of their relationship started to swirl in in late 2020. It was later confirmed on the team website.
They had to go their separate ways when Carrington was drafted by the Connecticut Sun in 2021 and Smith was drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2022. Despite the distance, they stayed together.
They looked at each other with adoring eyes in September:

This is where things get a little bit confusing. Smith and Carrington supposedly broke up at some point in 2023. They even unfollowed each other on social media.
However, they have since reunited after some romantic on-court moments.
Carrington swatted Erica Wheeler during a game between Indiana and Connecticut in May. Wheeler went to talk back to Carrington. Smith stepped in and pushed her teammate away from her then-ex.

All of that “drama” took place five days after an even more viral exchange between the two former lovers. Smith committed a foul on Carrington that knocked her to the floor and helped her back up in a sensual manner.
They stayed flirting, even though it looked for a moment like Carrington was angry.

She wasn’t upset at all! We now know that Carrington actually asked Smith out after their intimate on-court moment. They finally revealed the backstory during a hilarious Instagram livestream on Sunday!
