Among all the coaches to win an NBA Championship, Doc Rivers is certainly one of them. That’s as much as you can say about his coaching ability, as no coach in NBA history has had more chokes in the playoffs than Doc Rivers.

Yes, Rivers did get a championship back to Boston in 2008 for the first time since 1986. And, he did extend the Celtics’ old core of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen to be relevant a few more years than many thought.

After his run with the Boston Celtics, Doc Rivers went to the Los Angeles Clippers with the goal of bringing in league titles. But, they couldn’t get past the second round in seven years. For some reason, though, The Philadelphia 76ers thought he was just the guy to get the team to the promised land.

But, it has not happened. The team has lost in the second round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs three of the last four seasons, including humiliating losses in 2021 and today, when the team got absolutely run out of the TD Garden by the Boston Celtics, 112-88.

Going into Sunday afternoon’s game, Doc Rivers had already lost nine game 7’s, four more than the next closest coach. And, after the loss to the Celtics, he now has double the next closest coach. And, his list of blown series leads is incredible.

Sixers fans already didn’t like Doc Rivers, and this has just added to that.

Doc Rivers said he plans to be back as coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, but I’m not so sure about that.
