Red Sox first baseman Dominic Smith made a promise to a Boston fan during pregame warmups on Tuesday. He said he’d come through with a home run in a matchup against the Braves.

Not only did he make that pregame promise, but he also asked where the fan was going to be sitting after first pitch. He was going to hit the bomb in his direction!

“I got you,” Smith told the fan. “Where are y’all going to be at? Over there, on the Monster? Ok, I’m going to try to hit one over there to y’all.”

In the third inning of play, he delivered.

Smith turned on a 3-1 delivery from starting pitcher Max Fried, sending a moonshot deep to left field where it was safely deposited over the Green Monster. He called his shot!

Perfection.

Dominic Smith has struggled at the plate so far this season, hitting below .200 on the year. That didn’t matter when he stepped into the batter’s box on Tuesday. It was fate!

The hit would be Smith’s only of the day as he finished the outing 1-for-4 at the dish.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be enough to lift his team to a win. The solo home run cut a 2-0 deficit to just one run, but the Red Sox would eventually fall, 8-3.

Still, the slugger and the fan now have an awesome story to tell!

Boston would later get revenge on Atlanta with a 9-0 Wednesday shellacking that saw long-time minor league infielder Jamie Westbrook record his first MLB hit. It’s been quite the week at Fenway Park!
